Haven't felt the caress of a razor blade in a while, actually. Getting ready for winter.

How's the Mag, by the way?

Ugh, I don't know yet, and I'm starting to get a little impatient. I'm an incredibly patient person, so for me to get a little impatient is pushing it.

I'm supposed to hear from the shop very soon. I've made a couple stops at their shop and have to make a couple more this week, so maybe I'll see it on the lift soon.

What I do know is split into the good news/bad news categories. The good news is that the problem isn't timing related. The motor will get one head gasket and minor head work for cylinder 1. Two new spark plugs, and should be good. The bad news is that as of yet, no one is sure what would have caused the initial problem. I'm starting to worry about an MDS lifter, but just don't know yet. I'm hoping for minimally invasive work to get it running as a DD again. I will need it before Thanksgiving though, I really don't want to have it be in the shop for two months. We're crawling very close to a full month in the shop right now, and it's just been sitting. They are busy, and I'm not about to throw a fit, but I want my wagon back. At the same time, I do want to the job done right, and done by trustworthy people, and I chose this shop because of their reputation, not their turnaround time.

It'll be running again soon though, and I'll hopefully be able to post what actually broke....

That really sucks.

Keep us posted, I'm really curious to hear what might have caused the damage.

Have you checked on forums to see if it was a recurring problem?

There are very few problems with the motor. Initially I thought a rocker arm had cracked, because that's the most common issue with the cars, but due to the location of the damage, something was in the cylinder. Trust me, you and a lot of other people are still scratching heads about it. Motor is supposed to be pulled apart soon, the shop is swamped, and that's fine, I'm not trying to be a jackass about it, I want them to be busy and do good work.

A piece of a valve could have broken, the tip of the fuel injector could be cracked, it's really hard to say. It's just getting way too cold for me to even do work on the Neon, so I'm just dealing with things as they are. I'm going to see if a friend of mine can work on the Neon tomorrow for me, the part is cheap (power steering tensioner) but getting to it is a totally different story (lift motor, remove 3 bolts, pull bracket forward, replace pulley). More than I can deal with right now. Damn pulley only started to whine a couple days ago when it got real cold.
